July 27, 2017 | ‘FOCKS ‘ new Melbourne Central Art Loop Comission

Hannah Raisin, Flock, 2017
Hannah Raisin, Flock, 2017 is showing on Portal 3.

Glittering silver and blue spandex intersect the cabaret feathers and stiff white leather of a lone, cow-human-glam-god. The green palate of a nourishing wet season brushes over the wandering figure as red dirt clings to her feet. Vulnerable to their physical size, power and mass she runs toward them. The lumbering bulls, heavy, fat and bred to breed – they know her smell and they run.

Is the common fable ‘A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing’ just another cautionary tale or a threat to the sensibility of trust? Maybe it is a solemn warning of instinctive nature, that our fangs and desires can always betray us. Much like the subject the wolf may be just another searching soul, cross-dressing in a bedazzled attempt to join the flock.

Art Loop is curated by Andy Dinan of MARS Gallery.

May 18, 2016 | New solo exhibition ‘Recall’ 18 May – 4 June

Hannah Raisin Recall, 2016

Pupils shrink and take in a foggy audience, the membrane cracks, the syrup congeals and I gag on a failing synthetic rainbow – then clapping. I wonder if Carolee’s audience applauded.

Raisin’s exhibition Recall employs sensation, memory, re-performance and document to reengage a moment. Based on a reimagining of Carolee Schneemann’s 1975 performance ‘Interior Scroll’, ‘Dear Carolee, love Cindy, Love Hannah’ was initially commissioned by Channels Festival for the 2013 Memory Screens program. Like routine glances in the review mirror, Recall presents a suite of fragmented memories and reflections from this experience.

January 6, 2015 | Mobile Arts Residency

Hannah Raisin, Priscilla 2, digital photograph, 2013, photographer Will Heathcote

During 2013 and 2014 I spent 10 months on a mobile arts residency travelling through outback Australia and working on a cattle station. Over this period I produced a great deal of new creative material which I have been resolving into a number of bodies of works. I am excited about exhibiting these new creations, from Bovine inspired deities Vaulting on stockhorses at Murray Downs cattle station, to amphibious creatures climbing up waterfalls in the Kimberley. I was fortunate to receive the Australia council’s support for this project through the ArtStart and New Work grants.

The mobile residency included intensive new work development in remote areas and private properties, exhibitions in Brisbane, Alice Springs and Melbourne, Artsits Talks and forums, a studio residency in Alice Springs and collaborations with fellow participant Will Heathcote.

Over the residency I kept a blog oSee new works in development at
